   The internet has spawned a kind of shorthand—a jumble of abbreviations, acronyms and computer jargon—that makes it easier for us to communicate (and saves wear and tear on our keyboards). So it's not surprising that around here Writers Online Workshops quickly became known simply as WOW. As an acronym, WOW has a lot of advantages. It's short. It has a vowel in it so it can actually be pronounced. And it has meaning beyond the mere abbreviation of a very long product name: "Wow" was our reaction when the idea was first hatched; "wow" (or something very much like it) was what the programmers said when we told them what we wanted; and "wow" is what I think every time I look at this website. Because here we've brought together some of the best writers, editors and teachers to create a program that will allow you to focus on the things that are most important to you. No matter what kind of writing you do, whether you're just beginning or you're ready to take your craft to the next level, we have a workshop that will help you achieve your goals. Need to brush up on the basics? Take a look at our Elements of Effective Writing Workshops. Want to try your hand at something new? Our Fundamentals Workshops will teach you everything you need to know about getting started in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, life stories writing or writing for children. Stuck on that novel? Can't seem to find your way to the end of that short story? Looking for a way to record those precious family stories for posterity? We can help. And here's the best news: We're not done; in fact, we're just getting started. In the future you can expect to see genre workshops, special issues workshops, and one-on-one mentorships. We'll be adding student activity areas and continuing to build our library of writers' resources.
